Supersonic transport engines will bevariable cycle engines (VCE) in order to operateefficiently over a wide flight envelope of altitude andMach number. Multi-variable control is required tocontrol the VCE with a lot of variable mechanisms. TheVCE dynamics significantly vary with thrust level andflight condition. Practical engine actuators havestroke and rate limits. IHI has developed a multi-variable control law for the HYPR engine based onH~#infinity# control theory with gain scheduling andanti-windup techniques. Using the nonlinear enginesimulation model, IHI evaluated the developed controllaw and confirmed effective control of the VCE.
