Lean pre-vaporized and premixed (LPP)combustion technology was experimentally studied for thedevelopment of low NO_x gas turbine combustors operatingunder high compression ratios, such as aero-derived turbines. Toinvestigate the combustion characteristics under high-pressureand high-temperature airflow conditions of up to 3 MPa and 550deg C, a blow-down type with a regenerative heater combustiontest facility was developed. To achieve stable combustionwithout flash back and autoignition, a rapid mixing nozzle wasdeveloped. The combustion tests of the model combustor underthe above inlet condition and 1 420 deg C at the exit showed 60percent reduction of NO_x emission level compared to theconventional air-blast nozzle combustor.
