摘要

The super/hyper-sonic transport will berequired in the early 21st century to reduce the longrange flight time. The HYPR project was commenced todevelop the necessary propulsion system, which can beoperated in a wide speed range from low speed to Mach5, with economical performance compatible to subsonicaircraft, and also low noise and emissions forenvironmental compatibility. IHI has a major role inthis project as a leading company, in the areas ofinnovative technology research and developments, andin demonstrator programs. This paper summarizes thedesign concept and major features of the overallpropulsion system, R&D schedule, and technologychallenges conducted by IHI in the HYPR project whichhas been successfully completed.
