Design, fabrication and election of superstructure for Trans-Tokyo Bay Highway

IHI participated in the construction of the bridge superstructures for the IV section of the Tokyo Bay Aqualine, a bridge over the Tokyo Bay, which was opened to traffic in December 1997. The company, as a member of a consortium consisting of five firms, undertook design, manufacture, and erection of the IV section. This large project required multi-span continuous girders for the bridge superstructures. IHI was responsible for building the eleven- span continuous girders (P13 to P24) that support910 m of the 4.4 km long bridge. The outline of construction is described.
