Galvanized steel is found throughout building, farming and marine environments. First described in 1742 by the French chemist Malouin, galvanizing is the process of coating iron or steel with a thin layer of zinc.Steel et al. drew attention to the different clinical behaviour of a galvanized intraocular foreign body (IOFB), in that its presence produced a vigorous local reaction in the retina, thought to be toxic in origin, which resulted in a poor visual outcome for the patient.
