Introduction: Measurement of anterior chiamber deptli (ACD) has several clinical applications in ophthalmology and there is a well documented association between shallow anterior chamber, occludable angles and primary angle closure glaucoma. In 1979 Redmond Smith described a simple slit lamp technique to measure axial anterior chamber depth without additional attachments and with an accuracy of about O.I mm in the range 1.4 to 3 mm. However, the 'Redmond Smith' method (RSM) is not widely taught and is not mentioned in any of the standard glaucoma texts.
