Inadvertent laser-induced retinal injury following a recreational laser show.

Laser-induced retinal injuries usually develop accidentally in research and military laboratories. Clinical presentations including retinal haemorrhages and window defects with retinal pigment epithelial disturbances and vitreous haemorrhages were reported after exposure to laser light. Show lasers are widely used in the entertainment industry, for example, in recreational laser shows. Inadvertent retinal laser injury due to laser light exposure represents a serious public health concern.. Here we report two cases of retinal injury after exposure to the light of a multicolour-green show laser at a rock concert. The laser machine had been placed at about 1.5 m height and 2-3 m away from the two men who did not intentionally stare at laser light source.
