Corneal endotheliitis triggered by cataract surgery in a Chinese patient with cytomegalovirus anterior uveitis.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) corneal endotheliitis has been described to occur as a spontaneous event, causing primary endothelial failure with bullous keratopathy. We describe the occurrence of CMV endotheliitis complicating cataract surgery in an immune-competent patient with chronic CMV anterior uveitis. We discuss the medical treatment options and our successful results with the Descemet's stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK).
