Recently, significant interest has been focusing on the hydrolysis of DNA, RNA and 3',5'-cyclic adenosine monophosphate by rare earth elements (REEs). We also found a strong dephosphorylating activity of REEs using p-nitrophenyl phosphate as a substrate. The present report is concerned with the effect of physical and chemical factors on the dephosphorylating activity of REEs, and further the implication of this effect in the chemical evolution
