摘要

The surprisingly low temperature synthesis (50 deg C or so) of the ceria-zirconia solid solution by the process of milling ceria powder using zirconia mill and zirconia balls in liquid (ethanol and/or water) was studied. The solid solutions of the composition up to 60mol percent ZrO_2 were obtained. The formation was proved to result from solid phase reaction between ceria and zirconia powders at the temperature, enhanced by the contact stress between them. Furthermore, the occurrence of a large plastic deformation, breaking and mutual combining was found on the ceria powders as well as the solid solution whose size is around or less than 20nm, which would cause the easy rearrangement of the hard diffusion atoms, cerium and zirconium, to form the solid solution at such a low temperature.
