Tb~(3+)-doped and (Ce~(3+), Tb~(3+))-codoped Ca_(0.5)Sr_(0.5)Al_2SiO_7 were prepared by a solid-state reaction at 1273 K for 3 h in air and 1623 K for 6 h in a weak reductive atmosphere of 5 percent H_2-95 percent N_2 gas. The emission intensity of Tb~(3+) in the co-doped phosphor was five times higher than that of the Ce~(3+) single-doped phosphor. This is due to an energy transfer from Ce~(3+)to Tb~(3+). The co-doped phosphor showed a long-persistent phosphorescence with white color.
