Lanthanide(III) N,N'-Bis(2-pyridilmethyl)-N,N'-1,2-ethanediylbisalanine Complexes As Chiral Lanthanide Shift Reagents

Diamagnetic La-(III-(S,S)-bpba (7, bpba = N,N'-Bis(2-pyndilmethyl)-N,N'-1,2-ethanediylbisalaninato) and paramagnetic Ce-(III-(S,S)-bpba (8) resolved the enantiomer signals of #alpha#-amino acids at weakly acidic conditions, where #alpha#-amino acids hardly racemize. These complexes were by far stable compared to the corresponding tppn complexes (5 and 6) which were also active at acidic conditions. When 7 or 8 was used, a consistent regularity was observed between relative chemical shifts and absolute configurations of #alpha#-amino acids.
