Ovarian cancel is among the most deadly gynecologic cancers It is estimated that, in the year 2003, it will be the fifth-leading cancer type among new cancer cases and deaths in women in the United States. It will be responsible for about 25,400 (4% of total) of new cancel cases and 14,300 (5% of total) of cancel -related deaths. By the time of' diagnosis, approximately 70% of tumors have spread beyond the ovary, and such cases are rarely curable by use of existing treatment schemes. The incidence and survival of ovarian cancer have remained constant over the past three decades.
