ICRP and Radiation Protection in Medicine: Past, Present and Future

The International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) was established in 1928 as the International X-ray and Radium protection Committee and was restructured and renamed ICRP in 1950. The first general recommendations were issued shortly after its founding in 1928 and these were mainly concerned with protection of the medical profession and the restriction of working hours with medical sources, This restriction is now estimated to correspond to an annual individual dose of approximately lOOOmSv.
