Clinical application of cultured allogenic epithelial graftings for the treatment of fresh DDB wounds

The clinical application of cultured epithelial grafting for the treatment of burn wounds has been developed in recent decades. Since it is difficult to treat third-degree burns with full thickness skin defects using cultured epithelium, cultured epithelial grafting is mainly applied to second-degree burns. In cases of second-degree burns, evaluation of the depth of the burn wound is important, because cultured epithelium should be applied for the treatment of fresh DDB wounds. In this report, our method of treatment of fresh DDB wounds by cryopreserved allogenic cultured epithelial graftings is described. The depth of second-degree burn wounds was evaluated using a Hi-Scope (Compact Micro Vision System KH-2200, HiRox Co., Japan). From 1996, 24 cases of fresh DDB were treated with cultured epithelial grafting and the wounds were epithelialized on 6.29?.37 (mean?SD) days after injury. The results of our clinical experience suggest that fresh DDB wounds should be covered with cultured epithelium as soon as diagnosed.
