This paper investigates the interference suppression effect of coherent adaptive antenna array diversity (CAAAD) receiver with four antennas, in which receiver antenna weights are commonly generated for Rake combined paths, employing two mobile stations (MS), by field experiments in transmission power-controlled W-CDMA reverse link. Experimental results clarified that when the difference in angle between two MSs is greater than the beam width (about 15 degrees), the required MS transmission power at the average block error rate (BLER) = 10.2 employing the CAAAD receiver is decreased by approximately 2 dB compared to that with four-antenna space diversity reception (the ratio of the target E{sub}b/I{sub}0 of the desired user to that of the interfering user is ΔE{sub}b/I{sub}0 = -15 dB). Furthermore, when the difference in angle between the desired user and interfering user is within approximately 10 degrees, the required MS transmission power is almost identical to that with space diversity reception due to the decrease in interference suppression.
