Event Structure and the Representation of Verb Meaning -The Causative/Inchoative Alternation and -te iru-

In this report, we see the relationship between the causative/inchoative alternation and participial adjectives, and after representing their semantic characters on lexical conceptual structures, try to encode them in event structure representations. Then we consider the semantic properties of Japanese aspectual form -te iru, and show that the meaning of the change-of-state verbs combined with -te iru is simpler with respect to event structure than traditionally assumed.
