Space demonstration model of a fault tolerant computer system using commercial MPU

National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA) is planning the space demonstration of a computer system using commercial MPU in the Mission Demonstration test Satellite-1 (MDS-1), which is planned to be launched in 2001. Because commercial MPU does not have the hardness to the radiation, which is required for the space use devices, we adopt the fault tolerant technique using the multi-processor system. This paper presents the outline of hardware, software and the results of the evaluation test of the demonstration model which was completed in the fall of last year.
