Designing an orchard for the 21st Century requires a different mindset than that used in the past. Changes in economics, labor availability and quality, and market demands have presented growers with a new set of restrictions that must be considered.An understanding of basic horticultural principles is necessary along with an appreciation as to how and why compromises are made throughout the horticultural, farming, packing, marketing, and distribution continuum. To that end, the following comments are suggested.
