The development of cathodic corrosion protection technologies was triggered by the rise in demand for corrosion protection of underground pipe lines for large-scale petroleum and natural gas wells in the USA after 1930.In Japan, cathodic corrosion protection technologies started to be developed only after the mid- 1950s in association with the rapid post-war industrialization. Now the range of application of cathodic protection expanded from the underground pipes to port steel infrastructures, fire and nuclear power stations, petrochemical plants and ships.
