To promote the Society of Exploration Geophysicists of Japan, SEGJ, as a juridical incorporated body was a long time dream of all SEGJ members. Since the Incorporation Committee was organized in July 1999, we have had a lot of efforts applying a petition for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan. Finally, it was approved in the last December 2001, and I would like to share a joy of this achievement with all of our members and friends. This is, of course, not a goal but the first starting step for unlimited development of the SEGJ for future. Having a slow down of Japanese economy, we face to An Age of Uncertainty of our future. We learned the 1990's were a decade of uncertainty of oil geophysical industry. Learning from the fact that most of the new exploration geophysics technologies, 3-D and 4-D data-acquisition, data processing, interpretation, and presentations had been developed in the uncertainty decade. Accordingly, we should consider the decade of uncertainty, 00's, to be the decade of new technology development. The newly incorporated SEGJ should take more aggressive ways to reform our society further to be a core of multifunctional earth sciences and technologies, which may include resources, geo-engineering, disaster mitigation, environmental and geo-information applications in the 21 Century.
