Among the various kinds of EVs, we explored the use of Ni-MH batteries in an EVERY EV, a compact commercial vehicle with driving performance suited to urban use. To provide this EV with excellent driving performance we made a number of provisionsincluding the use of a small, light, high-efficiency DC brushless motor, an IGBT inverter allowing speed control, and low-rolling-resistance tires made especially for EVs. We equipped this vehicle with Ni-MH batteries and were able to confirm the EV'shigh performance and practicality. This report includes the structure of the EV equipped with Ni-MH batteries that we developed, the vehicle's performance, field test results, and other information.
