Field performance of SEV150 on Subaru Samber EV

Yuasa Corporation have been developing valve regulated lead acid batteries having a capacity of 150Ah or 60Ah for EVs and 65Ah or 35Ah for HEVs. The 150Ah batteries (SEV150) have been used in 44 Subaru Samber EVs, which have been developed by Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., since February 1996. Based upon the results of the investigation of the failed batteries and sampled batteries obtained from field use, we have found that improvement of the charge acceptance characteristics of the negative plateswould extend the life of the battery in practical use. In this paper, we report the results of the investigation of the batteries used in the field, and the improvement of the 5EV150 based upon these results.
