The rapid growth of cellular and PHS phones in recent years is bringing about an ever-increasing demand for telecommunications facilities. Requirements for telecommunications power suppliess are a large capacity, smallness, lightness, and a low cost, as well as infrequent maintenance need. In keeping with this trend, the present report describes a forced-air-cooled power supply system developed by Yuasa. This power supply system is designed to maintain mutual and constant communication betweenseveral high-performance forced-air-cooled power supply units and the one multi-function control unit (all units being built in the system) using the RS-485 communication function, which communication arrangement in turn allows the single control unit tocontrol and monitor the plurality of power supply units. What is more, using telephone lines also makes it possible to remotely control this power supply system. Small size, light weight, and a low cost were achieved by adoption of forced-air-cooling.Compared with a conventional natural air cooled power supply system, our newly developed system has successfully achieved 50% reduction in volume, 40% reduction in weight, and 50% reduction in foot print.
