A fighter is like an Indy car', said Lt Col David Leedom, referring to the fast racers used in the Indianapolis 500. 'A B-52 Stratofortress is more like a dump truck. If you're going to haul eight tons of gravel from Point A to Point B you want a big dump truck.' Leedom, call sign 'Crash', is commander of the 93rd Bomb Squadron of Air Force Reserve Command at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana. He has 5,000 pilot hours in the B-52, a warplane that isn't getting old and isn't going away. His squadron is the Formal Training Unit (FTU) for all B-52 pilots and crews.
