Air Mobility boss 'coming home' to a new job

GEN PAUL J. Selva became the boss at Air Mobility Command (AMC) at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois last 1 December, replacing Gen Raymond E. Johns. AMC is responsible for US airlifters and air refuelling tankers. Selva is a command pilot with 4,500 flight hours in both kinds of aircraft. He is also recognised as a focused, disciplined leader. He'll need those skills to steer his way through the challenges AMC faces today. These are spelled out in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2013, which President Barack Obama signed into law on 3 January. The NDAA had been finalised by the outgoing 112th Congress, which was gone by the time Obama wielded his pen. A feel-good segment of the law intended to belatedly recognise AMC's 20th anniversary (on 1 June 2012) tells us a little about what Selva must now handle.
