Effect of the mixture of charcoal with pyroligneous acid on shoot and root growth of sweet potato.

Number of roots, root length and root dry weight of sweet potato seedlings were increased by soaking in pyroligneous acid solution. In a pot experiment, a mixture of charcoal and pyroligneous acid (Sannekka E) promoted root growth and activity, andincreased the rate of photosynthesis by increasing N and chlorophyll contents in leaf blades. Shoot and tuber dry weights were therefore increased.
