This issue of Communication & Medicine appears shortly after the 8th COMET Conference held at Boston University. It was COMET's maiden appearance on US soil. Judging by the overall ethos at the time and the post-conference feedback, it was a huge success, intellectually and socially, thanks to the untiring and meticulous efforts of the local organizers. The 9th COMET Conference will be hosted by The University of Nottingham, 30 June - 2 July 2011 (see announcement in this issue, with links to the conference website for further details).
