Immunological Study on ABO Partial Antigens of Animal Red Cells using Monoclonal Antibodies —Rectification of the ABO partial antigen structure theory—

ABO partial antigen structure theory is one of the results of Japanese research on animal erythrocyte antigens. Animal erythrocyte antigenicity was studied by agglutination and agglutination inhibition reactions utilizing erythrocyte heteroaggluti-nins (heterophil antibodies) included in polyclonal antibodies in normal human serum. Partial antigens were classified by the analogous portions with human erythrocyte ABO antigens. By this classification, the group A partial antigens include AI, AII, AII and AIV in humans, AII, AIII and AIV in dogs ; AIII and AIV in pigs, and AIV in goats and sheep. The group B partial antigens include BI, BII, BIII in humans ; BII and BIII in rabbits, cows and rats ; and BIII in sheep and guinea pigs. Group O partial antigens include OI, OII and OIII in humans ; OII and OIII in rats ; and OIII in rabbits.
