ON NOVEMBER 29 the Fuerza Aerea Argentina (FAA) retired its Dassault Mirage combat fleet with a public event at Tandil, home of the VI Brigada Aerea. The ceremony placed a strong emphasis on the 1982 war for the Falkland Islands (or Malvinas, as they are known in Argentina). During the Falklands War the VI Brigada Aerea lost 13 aircraft, and to mark this each aircraft involved in the retirement event carried an emblem depicting the islands. One, wearing the 1982-era camouflage scheme, even wore markings in recognition of British ships sunk during the campaign.
