AZTEC HERCULES

The Fuerza Aerea Mexicana (FAM, Mexican AF) purchased 10 C-130AS in 1986 under a US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program. The contract included the training of maintenance and flight crews, and plans envisaged using three aircraft as a spares source to serve the front-line fleet. Deliveries began on November 18, 1987, when the first C-130 in FAM markings landed at Base Aerea Militar (BAM, Military Air Base) No 1 located in Santa Lucia, near Mexico City. The C-130 with the serial 10608 thereby began the Hercules' long career in Mexico.
