摘要

Acacia mangium has become a major plantation species in Indonesia because of its fast growth, wide adaptability on degraded land, and acceptable quality of wood for pulp and paper material (Turnbull et al. 1998). Similar to other tropical fast growingspecies , seedling seed orchards were established as first step of tree improvement for A. mangium. Early selection is often practiced in seedling seed orchards establishment to give higher genetic gain per unit time than the direct selection at rotation age. To evaluate the efficiency of early selection, information about time trend in genetic parameter is required. In this study, genetic parameter and the efficiency of early selection were evaluated using the data of periodical measurement in seedling seed orchards of A. mangium established in South Kalimantan, Indonesia.
