POSEIDON'S ADVENTURES: Beoing's P-8A moves towards service entry

The Poseidon, the US Navy's P-3C Orion successor, will perform long-range anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. Combat Aircraft provides an extensive overview of the programme. Boeing's P-8A Poseidon is currently deep into flight testing at NAS Patuxent River and working towards Initial Operational Test and Evaluation (IOT&E). OpEval, in mid-2012. As of January 2012, all six of the developmental test aircraft were involved in some aspect of ground/flight tests and flight crew training. The programme began the year having flown over 1,470 flights and in excess of 360 sorties.
