Almost as soon as the Korean War broke out in late June 1950, the communists began building up large numbers of MiG-15s at bases in Manchuria. By the time China entered the war in November 1950, US air superiority over the peninsula was seriously threatened. The straight-wing F-80s and F9Fs were no match for the swept-wing MiGs. The answer was the F-86 Sabre, and soon swept-wing fighters would be locked in combat over the Korean peninsula.
