More sting for Finnish hornets: Ilmavoimat goes air-to-ground

This summer the Finnish Air Force declared initial operating capability with its latest MLU2-standard F/A-18 Hornet, bringing an all-new air-to-ground capability to the Nordic air arm. FOR THE ILMAVOIMAT (Finnish Air Force) and its extant fleet of 62 F/A-18 Hornets, a process of evolution has seen the aircraft undergo one extensive mid-life upgrade program and the fleet is now receiving a second. The first upgrade, known as Mid-Life Update 1 (MLU1), was completed in 2010 and was designed to enhance the Hornet's primary air-to-air capability. The second, currently under way, gives the Finnish Hornet a new air-to-ground capability.
