Trucking revenues rise 63 percent in 2006: Growth slows after two double-digit years

Companies in the business of truck transportation racked up USD220 billion in revenues in 2006 - 6.3 percent more than in 2005, according to a new report from the U.S. Census Bureau. That's the third-best revenue growth this decade, but it trails double-digit growth posted in 2005 and 2004. Trucking revenues in 2005 were 11.1 percent higher than in 2004, while 2004 revenues were 10.4 percent higher than in 2003. One factor in the slower 2006 growth is non-motor carrier revenue for trucking companies, which grew 14.7 percent in 2005 over 2004 but only 4.7 percent in 2006 over 2005.
