Prognostic significance of P_(27) cell cycle inhibitors upon tumours of hypophysis

The results of studies undertaken in St. Barlholontew's Hospital (London) under supervision, of Prof. Crossman A. B. to examine the role and place of P_(27) gene in chromophobe adenomas pathogenesis are presented. Normal and adenomatous tissues of hupophysis have been studied immunohistochemically with highly. specific monoclonal mice antibodies to human antisera. Significant decrease in P_(27) expression in corticotrophic and malignant tumours of hypophysis, but insignificant reduction in prolactinomas and functionally inactive hypophysis tumour in comparison with the norm and STH-releasing tumours of hypophysis have been established. This can serve as the prognostic sign upon various adenomas of hypophysis.
