Days to flowering affect vegetative growth and yield components of Sri Lankan traditional rice variety 'Honderawala'

Improvement of yield potential of rice which is the major staple diet of Sri Lanka is important for food security in changing climate. Around 2000 accessions of Sri Lankan rice at Plant Genetic Resources Center (PGRC), Sri Lanka provides an untapped genetic resource of sustainable rice production. However it has not been fiilly characterized for the yield potential and sensitivity to mild photo-periodic differences for days to flowering (DF) has not been understood. DF is a candidate key determinantin yield components in rice. Therefore, understanding the variation of physiological and molecular nature for DF is important manipulation of yield in breeding programme.
