摘要

NUTRITION IN CANCER:As Surgical Oncologists we discuss albeit rarely about "Nutrition in Cancer" although a substantial degree of malnutrition is often found in our cancer patients. Malnutrition has been shown to diminish tolerance and responsiveness to chemotherapy and radiotherapy and increase perioperative morbidity. Of late, trials have come up with the evidence that proper and planned nutritional support helps to improve the quality of life (QOL), decrease infectious complications, reduce hospital stay, and even improve survival of malnourished patients . Recognition of the importance of these data prompted the authors to write this editorial for the benefit of the practicing surgeon. Three important questions need to be addressed in this regard namely, (1) What is cancer cachexia? (2) What is implied by specific nutritional support in cancer patients? (3) Who needs it and why?#
