The Director of SOCAR's Department of Gas Exports, Kyamal Abbasov, says that Shahdeniz is expected to produce no more than 7.8 BCM of gas from its 4 operational wells in 2010 compared with the plan for 8.6 BCM. He says that during most of September only 3 wells were producing while the 4th was undergoing a workover. The fifth well, which had been closed by the Shahdeniz consortium, is expected to start producing in December. This should raise the capacity of the first stage of development of the field to the planned 8.7-9.0 BCM/yr.
