We consider schemes of the finite-element method (FEM) for degenerate hyperbolic equations with discretization with respect to space. Of papers on the topic, we note the monograph [1], where the convergence of the semidiscrete Galerkin method was analyzed for the hyperbolic equation and the case of degeneration in time and in the space variable was considered separately. Of papers dealing with the degeneration-free case, we note the monographs [2-4] and only part of the papers [5-7].
