Generation of electromagnetic oscillations in the gigahertz frequency band and of laser radiation is extremely important in science and engineering. Until very recently, the terahertz frequency band, which lies between the laser radiation and the gigahertz frequency bands, has essentially not been used, even though it is of great interest for further scientific-technological progress. The recent development of nanoelectronics permits one to use this frequency band widely by applying resonance-tunnel structures as generators and detectors of terahertz oscillations.
