South Stream

SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullaev has told Gazprom that he is supportive of all proposed projects to transport Caspian gas to Europe including the Russian "South Stream" project which involves the construction of a 63 BCM/yr gas pipeline system across the Black Sea to carry a mixture of Russian and Turkmen gas to Bulgaria and Central Europe. His statement indicates that even Azerbaijan is now fast losing faith in the American-backed proposal for a "Nabucco" pipeline which would bring Turkmen and Azerbaijan gas from the Caspian to Turkey and Europe.
