OPEN ELECTRONIC BOOK FORUM FORMED TO DEVELOP STANDARDS FOR e-BOOKS

Representatives from more than 30 companies and nonprofit organizations met recently with members of the Open Electronic Book (OEB) Standards Initiative Authoring Group to facilitate the next step forward in promoting the growth of the electronic book industry. Held in December 1999 in San Francisco, the meeting resulted in the formation of the Open Electronic Book Forum (OEBF). A preliminary charter for the newly formed organization was composed and ratified. The purpose of the OEBF is to create and maintain standards to promote the successful adoption of electronic books.Charter members elected an Interim Board to guide the organization in its nascent stages; a NIST staff member chairs the board.
