Review: Service user involvement in the evaluation of psycho-social intervention for self-harm: a systematic literature review

This is a timely and pertinent systematic review of service user involvement in the evaluation of interventions for self-harm. The publishing of systematic reviews, with clear criteria for inclusion and exclusion of studies and transparent search strategies is of vital importance to nurses, particularly those who are practicing and may not have the opportunity to sift through and evaluate studies. With reference made to NICE (2004) recommendations for practice as the impetuous for the systematic review, it aims to identify service user involvement in research on the effectiveness of self-harm interventions, to illicit the types of research to which contributions have been made and to discuss how service user involvement could add to the empirical evidence.
