Magnolia magic: advice on propagation techniques

Many cardeners have gazed in wonder at the waxy flowers of the magnolias which, most people think, herald the onset of more agreeable weather. This notion is actually a little misconceived, because if the genus is considered as a whole, they perform over quite an extensive period. The flowering season commences in early spring with the likes of Magnolia campbellii, M. dawsoniana and M. denudata, through early summer with the better-known M. x soulangeana, its cultivars and allies, finally culminating in the later-flowering M. hypoleuca and M. grandiflora cultivars, which often flower well into autumn.
