Genetic improvement of cattle and sheep: putting science into practice.

摘要

The 3 main strategies for genetic improvement are reviewed following a brief introduction. These are (1) selection between breeds or strains, (2) selection within breeds or strains, and (3) crossbreeding. Improved methods for predicting breeding values and BLUP evaluations of beef cattle and sheep in the UK are further discussed as aids to within-breed selection.
