Until now, magnesia-chrome-brick with high corrosion resistance have been the main refractory used for lime kilns. However, in the case of magnesia-chrome-brick, there is a possibility that harmful hexavalent chromium will form. From an environmental point of view, the conversion to chrome-free brick is progressing in lime kilns as well as cement industries. The performance of chrome-free brick is not yet equivalent to that of chrome-containing brick, therefore, it is necessary to improve the quality of chrome-free brick. In this study, the wear mechanisms for chrome-free brick were analyzed, and efforts were made to improve the corrosion resistance.
