摘要

In castable refractories containing calcium aluminate cement (CAC) as the binder, it is a problem that mechanical strength decreases remarkably because hydration crystal phase changes occur with dehydration reactions, accompanied by a temperature rise. In this case, it is known from experience that castable with added silica fume gives improved fluidity of the slurry, and moreover an improvement of the mechanical characteristics of the hardened castable. However, detailed explanation of the essential reason (s) why the mechanical characteristics of a castable are improved by the addition of silica fume has not been reported.
