A method for producing a surgical cricothyroidotomy trainer using equipment found on the ENT ward

Surgical cricothyroidotomy is recognised as a reliable means of securing an airway in an emergency. The technique requires little training and only a rudimentary knowledge of neck anatomy and is widely taught as part of the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course. As such, it can be taught to a variety of staff members including those from different specialties, providing cross-cover at night.
